I sometimes mock the whole, “in a show that has this much attention to detail, there’s nothing Ricken says that isn’t a clue he’s an Eagen” energy around here, but I don’t think that was just exposition or a nothing detail (I mean, maybe it’s there to tell us that they are physically abused down there, and that’s it- that’s the message, but I think we may see or hear more about it. I think it will definitely be answered-don’t worry. And I’m from Florida and while I was there that man in Florida ate the other man’s face- it still seemed less crazy than my peers. I’ve never been to another state that was so proud of such bizarre things, or in which people could even make a fleur-de-lis hold so many rhinestones, or in which so many people stuck a rhinestones fleur-de-lis to their chimneys as a status symbol. Also, my friend Amy was shocked that I had heard of Tony Chachiere’s seasoning, like they only sell it in Louisiana (they’re southern people- they’ll sell anything anywhere in order to make another buck and prostrate themselves for capitalism). Also, there is nothing worse than listening to people from different parts of Louisiana spend an afternoon arguing about which part of Louisiana cooks crawfish correctly- they seem to think that there can be only one good pot of crawfish, and I suspect they will all die in the apocalypse still screeching and hectoring one another about optimal crawfish spice/heat levels. And o suspect some of them are proudly planning to do that with their babies, too, even though they’re dying of alcoholism. There’s not a bedraggled alcoholic in that state who won’t tell endless war stories about how when they were a baby, their mother would put a “nipple” (ugh) on a pony beer to keep them from crying. I’ve worked at a treatment center in Louisiana and that place is shocking, even to someone raised in Matt Gaetz’ district in north Florida (and were shocking to Normal folk).
